‘Elf the Musical Jr.’ (with performances on December 8th-9th, 2017) will hold auditions on Sunday, September 17th from 6-8:30 and Monday, September 18th from 3:15-5:15 at the Madison Arts Barn, 8 Campus Drive, Madison. The show features many wonderful roles for singing actors, non-singing actors and featured dancers. Interested performers in grades 5-12 are asked to attend the full audition period to showcase their range of talents (one of the two dates is sufficient, but you may attend both if you prefer). The auditions will feature theatre games, improvisation, readings and vocal auditions. Singers will be tested for range and are asked to prepare approximately 2 minutes of a song that best showcases their voice. Please bring a track with you on cell phone or mp3 file. Dancers are asked to perform a 90 second solo in their strongest genre. Callbacks may be required for certain roles, and will be scheduled by the director as necessary.
All Connecticut students are welcome and everyone who auditions will be included in the show.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Sunday, 9/24 from 4-8 p.m. (parent meeting for the first hour to go over details and sign paperwork). We will be meeting at that time each Sunday, plus Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m. We will work around conflicts to the best of our ability.
The policy is as follows:
‘We are happy to work around rehearsal conflicts up to production week for all ensemble members and supporting characters. Understudies will be chosen from the ensemble to cover to the roles of Buddy, Jovie, Walter, Emily and Michael. We will do our best to assign “show buddies” to each student who has to miss rehearsal time due to existing conflicts, to help bring them up to speed in blocking and choreography missed. Musical rehearsals will be recorded and made available online for students to work independently to learn their parts. Also, a CD recording of all musical numbers plus instrumental orchestration tracks will be distributed to each student (or made available for online downloads).’
Ho ho ho!!!! Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings to All!
Yes, I know it’s still summer and I fully expect everyone to squeeze the last months of beautiful weather and fun outdoor activities to the maximum, but here at The Madison Arts Barn (aka The Barn) we are gearing up to usher in the holidays with the BIGGEST, SPARKLIEST, TWINKLIEST & JOLLIEST production we have ever done– ‘ELF the Musical Jr.’! My name is Lara Morton and I have been teaching and directing youth theatre for over two decades. There are few things in this world I love more than guiding and inspiring excellence in young performers, and I could not be more excited to take the reigns on this project. We are looking to get the word out much farther and wider than ever before, to put our community on notice that The Barn is TURNING UP THE HEAT this December! We have tons of fun plans in the works to make ‘ELF the Musical Jr.’ a magical experience for all who participate on stage, behind the scenes, and especially for our family audiences. The Barn will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland on December 8th and 9th, and that will take a lot of work from a lot of hardworking, happy elves! Whatever your talent is, we want you to apply it in the most magical way possible this season, so let us know how you would most love to contribute to what is destined to be an unforgettable experience for all involved!.
